Abstract: #LetsKnowDD

Doordarshan, an organization launched in September 1959 under Prasar Bharti Division and Ministry of Information Broadcasting, came up with TV Channels across regions, locally, nationally, and even internationally. The First Experiment in Akashvani Studio, Delhi, DD slowly steadily began to expand and then began with the beginning of a new era that still and remains undying.

Doordarshan is a self-governing supporter subsidized by the Government of India, claimed by the Broadcasting Ministry of India and one of Prasar Bharati’s two divisions. One of India’s biggest telecom associations in studio and transmitter foundation, it was built on 15 September 1959.

Doordarshan, which communicates using computerized earthly transmitters, provides TV Channels, radio programs, and now the web shows too. Coming up with some of the greatest shows in history such as :

1. Fauji
2. Circus
3. Ramayana
4. Mahabharat
5. Chitrahaar
6. Shaktiman
7. Hum log

India, being a country where a focus lies on Mythology, brings the success of Ramayana and Mahabharat, which are now epic tales even many years after.  With the launch of the serials and Soap Operas, it created a new choice for the viewers using which in the present days, are taken over by “Ekta Kapoor & Balaji Telefilms”. Doordarshan in the year 1959 of its launch created a new segmentation in not just Indian markets but globally as well.

In Week 14, DD National had broken its own record accomplishing viewership figures of 1.9 billion, as indicated by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) information. DD National prevalently known as Doordarshan has also become the most-watched channel for two sequential weeks. As per the information by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, the Ramayan rerun has the most elevated ever appraising for a Hindi GEC.

After the 21-day lockdown was declared by Prime Minister on March 24, 2020, DD National chose to air reruns of some of the greatest shows, for example, Ramayan and Mahabharat. India’s state-claimed supporter Doordarshan has taken individuals on a nostalgic outing during the coronavirus lockdown.

Record Viewership Records: #LetsKnowDD

Cricket which is a religion in India also got compared with the viewership of the 2 famous: Ramayana &  Mahabharat. Viewership in India is calculated by BARC and reports of which are based on the above observations. Many of these shows are additionally being communicated in non-primetime spaces. Therefore, sponsors are rushing to national TV once more. Since April 1, 2020, Ramayan and Mahabharat recorded a 14X and 12X hop in sponsor tally individually.

What is Attracting Audiences?: #LetsKnowDD

Doordarshan’s Success is defined by its shows and of course not to forget their Reruns. The shows obviously were a hit in their 90s but now in the digital ages also. The record viewership only on TV is not only increasing but it’s also getting streams on OTT platforms after becoming a trendsetter.

Doordarshan does not only returns on TV channels but has also seen a huge shift towards its online learning platforms as well. Apart from Mythology, the broadcaster is also known for education channels and videos. With the advent of the new era, more such initiatives also started to pool in.

Doordarshan has been continuing in its service of providing people Entertainment, Education, and imparting values. Expanding & innovating on Govt Directives by DD and especially in the current lockdown scenario seems to have a positive impact on society. DD, if continue to grow will continue making records too.  Doordarshan presently has over 40 Studios, works as 21 stations: two all-India (DD National and DD News), 17 provincial satellite, 11 states, a global station (DD India), (DD Sports), DD Bharati, DD Urdu, and DD Kisan.
