Social Media Influencer- Making influence or Building disharmony?: Influencers, a new set of people arrived post the onset of social media. The concept of influencer means to influence people by your work, motivate them, inculcate healthy relationships. Since the launch of the worldwide web, the use has become highly popular and every person on the internet has become an influencer. Working influencers are not only ones but also people using social media are also influencing their circle or sometimes even outsiders in case it goes viral or global.

What has this become?

Sadly, the usage of social media has degraded its essence and has definitely become a place where the concept of influencing is directly related or proportional to being negative just to increase mere followers even at a cost of their self-respect. The fact can not be ignored that Social Media still has some reliable influencers but the intention behind every post still cant be judged.

Trading self-respect and plenty of fakenesses have become the new rules for social media influencers where it has become absolutely negligible to know the source of work. We, all have used social media to know the recent trends or to be active on the platform or even by an intention to become an influential person but those should be taken responsibility for and not misuse the set of available tools and audiences.

In fact, According to me, if a person is having even 100 people following him or her, even in that case this set of 100 people are the responsibility of the influencer and each and every post or even action defines the person’s influence on the set of followers. But, in this case, if the influencer starts to utilize these 100 people as weapons of mass destruction for a mere more follower, this can be damaging to not just him but also the society, having the potential to create a revolution but this time a negative one to degrade peace and harmony around.

What made me write this ?

I had written about a similar reaction in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, so that can be read here. I will not discuss something I had already done, but the cases like the Zomato-Kamaraj case, or the Baba ka Dhaba fame hurts the sentiments of not just me but everyone who is even consuming or had consumed the news.

I completely agree to questions coming to your mind about Gaurav’s intention, and that was completely true, but external influence had made baba do such things. This is the perfect example when we talk about having an influence not just on Social Media but in real life too.

When i talk about weapons of Mass Destruction on Social Media, I rather come across people like Hitesha, who was involved in the Zomato delivery boy case, her influence via her being a beauty influencer negatively went against the delivery boy as she decided to play victim cards against him. There is nothing wrong with being an Influencer but as i had said earlier if it’s being used as a weapon of mass destruction then its a completely undeniable fact of gaining followers in exchange of self respect which in this case was ‘15 mins late food

The cases of Baba Ka Dhaba and this Zomato delivery boy, is completely different but both came as a result of Influence. On one hand, where Baba Ka Dhaba was done to help the old couple using Gaurav’s influence and his network, on the other hand, Hitesha, used her influence but the intention was completely different as it was to gain sympathy over a fake story using her followers and to garnish a couple more.

How can this be solved?

The power of Influence should never be underestimated, we not only have people like Warren Buffet and Jeff Bezos but also in general any person who is using his or her available tools and audiences to create an impact is also much more effective and powerful.

Understanding our responsibility towards assets in hand ( digital) is the key without which, influential will become uninfluential and turn it into a never-ending weapon of destructing peace and tranquility.

This is a good topic with wide spectrum and debatable . Influence or power or control, everyone has this in their way but should be used wisely .
